A security source in Gaza confirmed that Israeli tanks fired at least two shells at a security point belonging to the Hamas movement that controls the Strip, while AFP correspondents confirmed that several rockets were then fired from the Strip towards Israeli territory.
On Tuesday, Israeli tanks bombed a site east of Gaza City in response to rockets fired in the morning from the Strip towards the south of the Jewish state, followed later by a second similar rocket attack, according to what the Israeli army and AFP correspondents reported.
The army said in a statement that “after rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip in the morning and IDF tanks fired, the Israeli army ordered residents in the areas surrounding the Strip to stay near bomb shelters.”

In another statement, the army announced the sounding of warning sirens in towns in southern Israel, noting that “22 rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip towards Israeli territory, Iron Dome intercepted four of them, while 16 rockets fell in open areas.”
The armed Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip claimed responsibility for this missile attack.
The factions said in a joint statement that, “While mourning the martyr fighter (Khader Adnan), it declares its responsibility for destroying the so-called raped settlements around the Gaza Strip with missile barrages.”
“This comes as a first response to this heinous crime, which will trigger responses from our people in all arenas and places of engagement,” the factions, which include Hamas and Islamic Jihad, said.
