Jones’ mother Camille died in 2017 after a long battle with diabetes and he responded by assuring Adesanya that she would be proud of him.
He wrote: ‘Sitting with tens of millions of dollars, children ablaze about Jesus Christ, one of the greatest martial artists and world history. Of course my mom is disappointed, why are you crazy brother?
‘My mother was a great humanitarian. I’m sure the healthcare project makes her prouder than anything I’ve done at the UFC.
“Izzy thanks for giving me the opportunity this afternoon to showcase my wonderful mom, now I just miss her. Are we still going before 2021? ‘
He then moved on to more separate posts, writing, “Will fight me against any weight you said, right?”
And: ‘The world is waiting’.
Jones concluded with, ‘I’m kicking myself here for having a fight with a guy who watches cartoons. I did myself a disservice today. ‘
Jones has given up his light heavyweight title and is currently moving up to heavyweight
Jones and Adesanya have been fighting each other for a long time, even as the former light heavyweight champion has left his belt and is preparing to make his debut with two weight divisions above the Nigerian-born New Zealander.
And their rivalry has intensified since Adesanya’s impressive second-round TKO win over Paulo Costa at UFC 253 last weekend.
Jones even accused the middleweight champion of “ growing breasts ” after seeing the deformed appearance of one of his pecs.
Many fans at the time used social media to point out the unusual form and many even accused him of taking steroids. Some steroid users may find they have gynecomastia, a swelling of male breast tissue.
Adesanya had one of his best ever performances beating Paulo Costa at UFC 253
Adesanya has addressed the allegations about his swollen muscle, telling ESPN that he has had a blood test and two MRI scans of his pituitary gland to diagnose the problem since the Saturday night fighting.
He has never failed a doping test and has denied ever having used steroids.
Jones is working hard to level up to heavyweight where a massive showdown with Stipe Miocic awaits, but clearly a fight with Adesanya remains on his radar.
