Indian Super League side Odisha FC have announced that they have parted ways with head coach Josep Gombau.
“The club has made this decision based on its ambitions and the standards that have been set for the present and the foreseeable future,” the statement read.
“The OFC would like to thank Josep for his contributions in various capacities throughout his tenure and wishes him the best for the future.”
Under Gombau, Odisha FC started the season well but found it difficult to maintain consistency. They reached the playoffs after finishing sixth in the table with 30 total points.
Odisha’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals came to an end on 4 March when they lost their knockout match to ATK Mohun Bagan 2–0.
This was Gombau’s second season with Odisha (formerly Delhi Dynamos) having coached the team for two years from 2018 to 2020.
The club will participate in the upcoming Super Cup in Kerala, starting on April 6, however, the management did not mention whether a new manager will be appointed before starting their Super Cup campaign.
Meanwhile, in the ISL semi-finals, Bengaluru FC will be looking to maintain their winning streak in the second leg against Mumbai City, having won the first game 1-0 thanks to Sunil Chhetri’s goal.
In the other semi-final, Hyderabad FC will travel to Kolkata to play ATK Mohun with their first leg ending in a goalless draw.
