Brighton’s merciless carnage on the opposition ground felt like Arsenal’s swift elbow in the stomach of its two title rivals for a more pertinent reason than the score itself.
In the Premier League, Arsenal has scored the most goals (75), the one that has conceded the fewest (24) and the one that has kept a clean sheet (14).
However, it was the north London club’s good form away from home that temporarily caused them to lose sight of the Championship.
Three of their four league defeats this season (Newcastle, Aston Villa and Fulham) were all on rival territory.
The Gunners are now unbeaten in their last six away league games, and it is this recent ability to pick up away wins that could well settle this tightest title race.

Arsenal face Tottenham and Manchester United in enemy territory in their last four games. With Manchester City and Liverpool fighting with them at the top, wins in both games may be non-negotiable if the Gunners are to lift their first title since 2004.
Asked if Saturday’s convincing 3-0 win boosts the team’s confidence ahead of a tough end to away games, Mikel Arteta said: “Yes, it does.” This is a really difficult place to come and win, but also because of the way and the formula in which we have done it. Hopefully, yes, we can continue doing what we are doing.
“We know that we are going to have to play (well), since we have won 10 and drawn one of the last eleven and we are not first in the league.
“It’s like, ‘Let’s go!’, but this is the level and that’s why we have to improve as quickly as a team to try to be there.”
It wasn’t just any away victory either. The scars of losing 3-0 here in May, amid Arsenal’s eight-point implosion to surrender last season’s title to Man City, will still have been present in some way, even if Arteta joked on Saturday: “I I forgot (that) already!’
It begs the question: what has worked outside the home?
“It’s about performances,” he said. “You have to earn the right to win in this league and teams ask you a lot of questions.
“There are a lot of things you have to control to win a game in the Premier League away from home and the team seems to be controlling those moments much better and is comfortable at different stages of games when teams demand other things. That’s a big thing. step as a team”.
Arsenal’s visits to Manchester United and Tottenham could decide whether the title heads to the Emirates or, alternatively, Liverpool or Manchester City.
Trips to Man United and north London rivals Spurs will not be easy. Those atmospheres, particularly in the final match, would test the most willing players.
But if the Gunners can continue in the same vein of recent weeks in enemy territory, they will need to be stopped a bit.
