A man fractured his penis after he bent against his partner while having sex in a notoriously dangerous position.
The 37-year-old man from Indonesia arrived at hospital with a swollen, bloody and severely bruised penis, which doctors said looked like an eggplant.
The patient explained that he heard a “loud pop” while having sex a few hours earlier in the reverse cowgirl position, when the woman is on top and facing away from her partner.
Doctors discovered he had fractured his penis and rushed him into emergency surgery, where they repaired the damage.
Doctors have now warned that the injury can occur when an erect penis hits your partner’s perineum or pubic bone during “vigorous” sex, causing it to bend.

Urologists at the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial General Hospital detailed how the patient arrived at the emergency department with a swollen penis, which they said started three hours earlier.
The man explained that he was having sex in a reverse cowgirl position when he suddenly heard a cracking sound.
The dangerous position, also called “female top,” is known for the risk of damaging the erect penis.
There are no bones in the penis, but the injury is still known as a “fracture.”
The anatomy of an erection is based on two spongy tubes that fill with blood and harden, and a firm fibrous sheath that surrounds them, called the tunica albuginea.
When the tunica albuginea, which is primarily composed of collagen, comes under extreme pressure, it can rupture and cause the penis to lose its shape.
The man immediately felt intense pain, lost his erection and began bleeding from his penis. The patient was also unable to urinate.
Doctors said the patient had suffered a significant hematoma – an injury to the blood vessel wall, which causes blood to leak into the surrounding tissue.
They noticed that his penis was left with the “eggplant deformity,” where it swells and turns purple, which is a telltale sign of a fractured penis.
The man was rushed into surgery, where doctors made an incision in the tip of his penis to “strip it,” when the top layers of skin and tissue are removed.
This revealed a “wide, deep fracture in the penis.”
Doctors noticed that the tissue surrounding the penis (the tunica albuginea) was torn.
In the procedure, surgeons cleaned the injury site, repaired the two broken tubes and sutured the urethra.
Doctors performed an “artificial erection test” to make sure there were no leaks from the wounds and that the penis was not bending abnormally.
The penis was then sewn back together and covered with a bandage.
The man’s member was still blue three days later, when the bandage was removed.
He was sent home with a catheter (a tube inserted into the bladder to urinate) five days after the operation.
At an appointment a few weeks later, doctors found that the man’s penis was “in good shape,” that he could have an erection and urinate normally.
writing in the diary Urology Case ReportsDoctors noted that, in addition to sexual intercourse, penile fractures can also occur during masturbation or even when turning in bed at an odd angle.
Urologists explained that “very rare urological emergencies” are easy to recognize and diagnose, as they usually cause a cracking sound, sudden swelling, bruising and severe pain.
It may also be difficult to urinate and the penis may bleed.
They observed that surgery results in the fastest recovery.
Since 1925, there have only been about 16 documented cases of this injury per year worldwide.
Men in their 40s are more likely to suffer a penile fracture.
