- Sydney Swans and Brisbane Lions will face each other in the decisive match
- A lawn enthusiast decided to bet big for the grand finale week
- He created a masterpiece that has to be seen to be believed.
You’ve probably heard of backyard cricket pitches, but one football fanatic has taken his passion to a whole new level with a dedicated local pitch at the MCG.
The Melbourne Cricket Ground will host the AFL Grand Final between the Sydney Swans and the Brisbane Lions on Saturday.
So one lawn enthusiast decided to groom his garden in the most perfect way possible, emulating the MCG in an incredible landscaping feat.
The massive effort was the initiative of Nick Bransgrove, a social media phenomenon who runs the TikTok page Lawnsingoodnick and other social media channels that he hopes will “get people off social media and into the yard.”
In the video, he painstakingly cuts the perfect criss-cross stripes in his garden, marks out the boundary and 50-metre lines, assembles the goalposts and even includes sponsorship on the sideline.
“My epic plan came true,” Bransgrove posted.
“Best of luck to the Sydney Swans and Brisbane Lions in the AFL Grand Final. I’m sure the real Melbourne Cricket Ground will look a lot better than mine.
‘A huge thank you to Ryobi Australia for supporting and believing in this idea, and on behalf of all football fans a huge thank you to the players and commentators in these clips – they are forever etched in the memory of all football fans.
‘Happy grand final week.’
Bransgrove kicks a goal in his backyard in tribute to the Melbourne Cricket Ground he created ahead of grand final day
The MCG is Australia’s most iconic cricket and football ground and will host the grand final between the Sydney Swans and Brisbane Lions on Saturday.
In the video clip of the construction of the local MCG, Bransgrove included commentary highlights from some of the great moments in AFL grand final history, including James Hird, Jason Akermanis, Steele Sidebottom, Dom Sheed, Heath Shaw, Dustin Martin, Shane Crawford, Leo Barry and Alex Jesaulenko.
It also included audio from iconic commentators such as James Brayshaw, Brian Taylor, Sandy Roberts, Bruce McAvaney, Steven Quartermain, Mike Williamson, Anthony Hudson and Dennis Cometti.
It was a labor of love that left football fans in awe.
“Backyard cricket is one thing, but backyard football is a whole other level,” one follower posted.
“If you put the big screen up you’ll have a good field to watch the final,” said another.
“It’s times like this that having this app is really rewarding,” posted one TikTok user.
“So it will be the big final day at your house… my kids will go crazy seeing this,” posted another, inviting themselves to join them on the big day.
