Is Meghan Markle a bench influencer? Fans are rushing to buy duchess-inspired garden furniture

Meghan Markle confirmed her status as a fashion icon when she joined the Royal Family, but since moving to the US, she’s been setting new trends – with its garden furniture.

Clothing and jewelry brands favored by the Duchess, 39, often see her favorite items sell out within hours of wearing them in public, and the ‘Markle Sparkle’ seems to be spreading to interiors.

Last week, the Duchess of Sussex, 39, announced that she will be releasing a new children’s book called The Bench on June 8, inspired by a poem she wrote for Harry on Father’s Day the month after their son Archie, now two, was born.

Days later, she made a television appearance in support of Vax Live, discussing the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on women, while sitting on the couch and presumably the star of her literature debut.

According to Google Trends, people searching for the term “ bank ” on Google Shopping nearly doubled on May 5, when news of Meghan’s children’s book broke, and again on May 8, coinciding with her performance on Vax Live TV.

It comes after the Christopher Knight deck chairs that Harry and Meghan sat on during their explosive Oprah Winfrey interview sold out quickly.

Popular culture expert Nick Ede told FEMAIL that the Meghan effect is so powerful that literally anything she touches is sold out.

“She has this strength because so many people want to emulate her style and this doesn’t just stop with fashion, this is lifestyle, like a new era Martha Stewart,” he said.

‘Meghan has the power to sell products, that’s every brand’s dream. The fact that she can shift sales of garden benches shows that her brand equity is tremendous and has the power to shift everyday items – even coffee. ‘

After the Sussexes' Oprah interview, house buffs continued to scramble over themselves to get their hands on the Christopher Knight Home Burchett outdoor club chairs they sat on, which retail for around £ 400 for a pair.

Many were disappointed when the American designer’s chairs, made of acacia wood with plastic rattan sides, sold out everywhere – including Amazon, Target, and Overstock.com.

Christopher Knight took to Facebook himself and wrote: “I am honored that the deck chairs in my collection will become the seat of the most fascinating famous chair in recent history. It appears that Meghan and Prince Harry have been “knighted” in a way that was never foreseen. ‘

While the designer of their garden bench – which they also appeared on last year during a video urging people to vote in the US election – has not yet been identified, there are a number of lookalike options available online.
