Football fans have claimed Matildas star Mary Fowler is rapidly developing an English accent following a recent interview from a Women’s Super League match.
Fowler, 21, chatted after setting up two goals during Manchester City’s emphatic 4-1 victory over Liverpool and his distinctive Australian accent appeared to have undergone a change.
The footage was later uploaded to TikTok and most of his followers were convinced that it sounded noticeably different.
“What’s up with the English accent?” one fan asked.
Another posted in response: “That’s what happens when you move to a different country for a few years.”

Fowler (pictured with boyfriend Nathan Cleary) was interviewed after Manchester City’s emphatic 4-1 win over Liverpool, and her distinctive Australian accent was a little different.
The vision was uploaded to TikTok and football fans noticed the difference in his voice.
A third chimed in with: ‘I love his English accent. She got over it.’
Fowler joined the Citizens from French side Montpellier HSC in 2022 and while her talent is obvious, she has often been used as an impact player off the bench.
In the title race, Gareth Taylor’s team is currently leading ahead of Chelsea, but the Blues have a game up their sleeve.
Now that the international break is in full swing, Fowler has swapped the gloomy weather in England for some sunshine in the United States.
It comes as the Matildas take on Mexico in Texas on April 10 at 9:30am AEDT.
The friendly is another opportunity for coach Tony Gustavsson to refine his squad, whose first match at the Paris Olympics will face Germany on July 26.
The Swede will only be able to field 18 players, which means that some big names will be left out of the team.
Following the clash against Mexico, the Matildas will reconvene back in Australia for a two-match series against China in Adelaide (May 31) and Sydney (June 3), respectively.
