Is John Dutton’s fate sealed? Rumors suggest Yellowstone may be eliminating Kevin Costner’s lead character.

Date:

Just hours after a report claimed that Yellowstone will be coming to an end after the back half of Season 5, a new report confirms that the show may continue… even though there are plans to kill off Kevin Costner’s Jon Dutton.

report from Showbiz 411 Costner’s Dutton will allegedly “meet a similar fate” to that of Brian Cox’s Logan Roy on HBO’s Succession, who was shockingly killed off in the third episode of the show’s final season.

The back half of Season 5 was supposed to debut on Paramount Network this summer, though a scheduling conflict with Costner, 68, has pushed the show to a possible return sometime this fall.

The whole team in Texas is getting together right now and trying to figure out how to do it. I’m sure Taylor Sheridan has more or less succeeded,” a source claims, adding, “We all knew Kevin was going to leave eventually.” “

While the on-screen death isn’t terribly surprising considering the months of behind-the-scenes drama, the source also claims that the show will continue for at least one more season, and won’t be related to the Matthew McConaughey event that was reported-about.

Similar fate: A Showbiz 411 report claims Costner’s Dutton “will meet a similar fate” to that of Brian Cox’s Logan Roy on HBO’s Succession, who was shockingly killed off in the third episode of the show’s final season.

“I think the main show will run for at least one more season after that, they’ll have to see how that goes. Remember, that won’t happen until 2024. A lot could happen,” the source added.

The source also claimed that McConaughey’s show will be like the Yellowstone prequel 1923 and will be its own series which will not necessarily have major ties to the main series.

Director Taylor Sheridan has not yet indicated when the Yellowstone season 5 finale will be filmed.

The behind-the-scenes drama with Costner and Sheridan first came to light in an early February report from Deadline, which claimed Costner had originally been limited to 65 days of filming on the fifth season.

While he spent 50 days filming the first half, the report claimed he only wanted to spend a week filming the back half, as he was preparing to star and direct his multi-part epic Western for Warner Bros. Pictures. Pictures, his first film directorial effort in 20 years since 2003’s Open Range.

While Costner himself has not spoken publicly about the report, his attorney, Marty Singer, has claimed that the report is all a lie.

“The idea that Kevin was only willing to work one week on the second half of Season 5 of Yellowstone is an absolute lie,” Singer said.

Singer added, “It’s absurd – and anyone who suggests it shouldn’t be believed for one second.”

Cole Hauser, who plays cowboy Rip Wheeler in the hit series, indicated in an interview that there will be at least two more seasons of Yellowstone.

I can tell you there will be 6 and there will be a 7th, that’s all I can say. That’s all I can tell you,” Hauser hinted, though plans for a renewal have not been confirmed by Paramount at this time.

Chris McCarthy, President and CEO of Paramount Media Networks, opened up in a wide-ranging interview at the Hollywood Reporterwhere he did not provide any details but remained hopeful that they could hold on to Costner for more Yellowstone.

“(Yellowstone) wouldn’t be what it is today without Kevin and hopefully for a long time to come,” McCarthy said in the interview.

McCarthy’s statement is similar to that of Paramount Network, which was issued in early February after the original report.

We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone and we hope that will be the case for a long time to come,” the statement began.

“Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this amazing world that he has built. Matthew McConaughey is an exceptional talent that we would love to partner with.”

While McCarthy did not explain Costner’s position, he made it clear that the project with Matthew McConaughey would continue to move forward regardless of Costner’s return.

McCarthy added that the McConaughey project is one of the ten mega projects that Taylor Sheridan, creator of Yellowstone, is developing in the network.
