Nicola Coughlan has revealed Bridgerton will be edgier than ever as she blushes at the show’s racy scenes.
The actress, 37, plays Penelope Featherington in the hit Netflix series and appeared on Thursday’s This Morning to talk about the upcoming season.
While chatting to Cat Deeley and Ben Shepard, Nicola said that her raunchy bonkbuster sex scenes felt very uncomfortable to begin with.
But as she has known her on-screen lover Luke Newton, who plays Colin Bridgerton, for four years, she revealed they eventually became comedians for her.
Dressed in a stunning gray suit and white vest, the Derry Girls star said: “I think we’ve got the sass out of this series!”

The actress, 37, plays Penelope Featherington in the hit Netflix show and this series will focus on her relationship with Colin Bridgerton (played by Luke Newton).
To which Ben replied: ‘So you’ve had your fair share of steamy sex scenes in this one?’
Nicola laughed and said “yes” before Ben asked her how she manages to have sex on screen.
She responded: “It’s really stressful, but luckily I’ve known Luke for four years and he’s a super nice guy.”
Ben, clearly interested in the topic, asked if it ever gets easier.
She said: “It’s worse at first and then better in reality because we can laugh about it.” “It was quite liberating and a lot of fun to do.”
“We also have a lot to say about what we want to do,” he added.
She has replaced Simone Ashley as Bridgerton’s female lead and, like her predecessor, will appear in several steamy and naughty sex scenes.
Nicola revealed she was “terrified” of filming intimate moments with co-star Luke Newton because she is an Irish woman.
The third series, with the first part airing on May 16 and the second on June 13, will see Penelope pursue Colin.
As Irish women have been stereotyped with a reputation for being prudish, Nicola told the Six O’Clock Show that she originally thought she couldn’t do the steamy scenes.

“I’m so excited, I can’t wait,” she said. ‘It was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. Luke Newton, who plays my love interest, is wonderful.
‘And even my wig has been improved. This season is really fun and romantic, they have incorporated a lot of romantic comedy elements.
And it’s not something to watch with the family. Take from that what you will. It was terrifying. I’m an Irish woman and any Irish woman would feel like she can’t do this.
“And then I went and realized it’s my job, so I better do it.” I had a great partner and it was scary, but really liberating. By the end I was exhausted.”
The third season of the hit regency romance, which follows the eight Bridgerton siblings trying to find love, will continue the love story of Penelope and Colin.
Speaking on the One Show on Wednesday night, Nicola said the romantic scenes made her ask for a PG version for her parents to watch.
“It’s an action-packed season,” he said. ‘I got to see something last night and I was bouncing off the walls with excitement.
‘She (Penelope) served her sentence, she waited, it was Penelope’s time.
‘I asked for a PG version for my family because I’m not going to do that. Plus, after seeing it last night, I’m not really going to do that.
‘Watch it with your mom if you want, I won’t watch it with mine. I’ll have to get him a separate Netflix account.
Nicola said: ‘It was terrifying. I’m an Irish woman and any Irish woman would feel like she can’t do this. I had a great partner and it was scary, but really liberating.’
