A woman is expected to be accused of the murder of Irene Jones in Sydney, 18 years ago in the southwest of the city.

The police found Mrs. Jones's body investigating reports of a break and went to her home in Lansvale on November 2, 2001.

Officers of the Unsolved Homicide Unit arrested a 45-year-old woman outside a unit in Bondi Junction on Tuesday morning.

The police say she was known to Mrs. Jones.

She was taken to the Waverley police station where she is expected to be charged.
