Iran’s sitting volleyball team is in the semifinals of the Paralympic Games, with the world’s second tallest man playing a part in their success.
Morteza Mehrzad stands at a massive eight feet and one inch and after helping his country to gold in Rio in 2016, he holds the record for the tallest ever entrant at the Paralympics.
Sitting on the ground, his raised arms stretch out over six feet, and he’s helped put the team within reach of another medal in Tokyo.

Iran is a favorite for the competition and has made it to the final every game since the 1988 Seoul Paralympic Games.
On Tuesday, they sealed their passage to the semifinals after beating China in two sets (25-21, 25-22, 25-14).
Mehrzad was diagnosed with acromegaly at a young age, a condition resulting from an excess of growth hormone.

He normally uses a wheelchair or crutches to get around as a result of a severe pelvic fracture he sustained in a cycling accident at age 15.
The injury caused his right leg to stop growing, and it is now six inches shorter than his left leg.
The 33-year-old started playing sitting volleyball in 2011 when a coach saw him on television and noticed his potential due to his huge edge over both his competitors and teammates.
He was first called up to the national team in 2016 and helped Iran to the top step of the podium in Rio after eight years without gold in the event, following a 3-1 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Mehrzad has already helped Iran to gold in Rio and a world championship in 2018
He then helped them regain their world title in the Netherlands in 2018 by beating Bosnia 3-0 again.
With a top block reach of six feet four inches, opponent coaches had to rethink their strategies due to his presence on the field.
Following their win over China, Iran will face Group A runner-up on Thursday, which consists of Bosnia, the Russia Paralympic Committee (RPC) and the bronze medalists of Rio 2016, Egypt.
