A man is in custody following a dramatic arrest after his girlfriend was allegedly found stabbed to death inside a home in Queensland.

Police were called to the home on Flinders Drive in Leichhardt, in Ipswich southwest of Brisbane, to carry out a welfare check at about 9.15am on Monday.

The body of a 28-year-old woman was found in the home, sparking an urgent search for her 36-year-old boyfriend, who was reportedly seen driving away from the house earlier that morning in a white Toyota sedan.

A police helicopter and tyre spikes were deployed to track and stop the man in his car about an hour later on Ipswich Boonah Road in Peak Crossing.

He was arrested at the scene and is assisting police with investigations while the Toyota was towed away for forensic examination.

Queensland Police have announced they are searching for a knife in connection with the alleged crime at Wyaralong Dam, about 50 kilometres south.

At a news conference on Monday, police said they were called to the woman’s home after receiving a report of concern for the welfare of one of her relatives.

First responders arrived to find the woman had suffered multiple stab wounds, police said.

A crime scene has been established at the house on the corner of Flinders Drive and Torres Street.

The streets surrounding the scene of the incident have been closed to the public.

Police and forensic investigators were seen searching the house around midday.

A neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, said he heard a couple fighting Sunday night.

“I heard screaming and shouting coming from the house… this has been going on for a couple of days,” the neighbour told the Courier Mail.

‘I woke up this morning and saw all the police outside, I can’t believe something like this happened.’

They said the residents had moved into the home only about six months ago.

More to come.
