The iPhone 15 Pro Max could get a larger camera sensor.
Smartphone camera lenses are getting bigger and bigger – it’s no secret. With the iPhone 14 Pro, the lenses on the back protrude relatively far from the housing.
In addition to the variable telephoto lens, the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro Max will receive another significant camera upgrade: the new 48-megapixel sensor from Sony (IMX903), which measures 1 inch.
iPhone 15 Pro Max with larger main sensor?
The iPhone 15 Pro Max is said to get Sony’s new sensor, like the prominent one Leaker IceUniverse on Twitter communicates. The sensor therefore measures 1/1.14 inch instead of the previous 1/1.28 inch on the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
A larger sensor at the 1-inch mark is said to allow for more efficient light capture and detail storage. Physically, the size of the sensor is actually 1 inchbut it will probably not be possible to use the entire sensor effectively.
The camera on the back of the iPhone 14 Pro protrudes relatively far from the case.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max would not be the first smartphone with such a large sensor. The Xiaomi 13 Pro and Sony Xperia Pro 1 already have a 1-inch sensor installed.
Such a lens still does not come close to mirrorless cameras. However, Apple will try to further compensate for this circumstance with its computer-aided image processing.
The more light falls on the camera sensor, the more image information can be processed.
It remains to be seen whether this camera upgrade can actually be seen on the iPhone 15 Pro Max or iPhone 15 Ultra.
other rumours indicate that Apple will not be available until next year – along with the iPhone 16 Ultra – will install a larger main sensor. The iPhone 15 Pro Max, on the other hand, is said to be the only model to benefit from a periscope lens in 2023.
Other iPhone 15 Pro (Max) improvements
In addition to the obligatory camera upgrade, the iPhone 15 Pro will probably be released with the A17 Bionic processor and will have 8 GB of RAM instead of the previous 6 GB.
In addition, Apple will integrate the USB port for the first time with the 15 series in order to follow a corresponding EU directive. The capacitive side buttons were apparently discarded due to technical hurdles.
Buyers of a standard model can look forward to Dynamic Island. The display cut-out should be used on all new iPhone models in 2023.
