iPhone 11: a first look at the new standard iPhone from Apple

I just spent some time with the new iPhone 11 from Apple, the successor to the company's popular iPhone XR. It arrives on September 20, priced at $ 699. Although the iPhone 11 looks visually identical to the iPhone XR in the front, it is the back of the device that is really changing this year.

Apple adds a system with two cameras & # 39; s with an extra ultra-wide camera of 12 megapixels that allows you to go back to a field of view of 5x so that you can see more in the picture. Those cameras are no longer in a separate camera shot. Instead, the back glass of the phone now contains the camera modules. It is still a camera bubble, but now it is all a single piece of glass. It's pretty striking, especially on the white model.

This camera system includes a new software interface for both cameras that allows you to look outside the frame so that you can see the details of the photos you take with the ultra-wide camera. You can also keep the shutter release button pressed to immediately make a video. (Don't despair, you can still take burst photos by sliding the shutter to the left – it's a neat interface idea.) The front camera also gets an upgrade to a TrueDepth wide-angle camera with 12 megapixels supports slow-mo capture for what Apple calls "slofies."

The camera changes are the big news this year, but you can also choose from new color options: purple, white, green, yellow, black and red are all available. Apple is also improving battery life this year by one hour, thanks to the latest A13 Bionic processor in it.

Apart from the extra camera, the improved processor and the slight increase in battery life, the iPhone 11 is very familiar if you have spent time with the iPhone XR. The 6.1-inch LCD screen is now under slightly stronger glass, but it is still an excellent Apple LCD, not an OLED. The FaceID module now works a little faster and in a slightly wider angle. And it is very difficult to judge processor improvements in a demo setting, but the A12 Bionic in the XR already had so much headroom that it is hard to see how that will be a noticeable improvement for the target market here in the short term.

We're going back to collect more time with the iPhone 11 and make a video, so keep an eye on it. And of course we will review this phone as soon as possible.
