A content creator has revealed how you can keep your home cool and lower your energy bills this summer – and it all has to do with how your blinds are angled.
The passing US-based TikToker @DJLostOne and frequently shares hacks, shocked netizens by sharing the real reason why your blinds can turn both ways.
He noted that having your blinds face up can cool your home by up to eight degrees.
In a viral video, which has so far garnered over 2.3 million views, DJ told people how leaving their blinds ‘face up’ keeps your room cooler.

‘Have you ever noticed those aluminum blinds in your house, the ones that go up or down? There’s a real reason for that,” he said at the start of the video.
Then he explained why transforming them is good for both you and your electricity bill.
“During the summer you’re supposed to move it up…that’s so it can direct warm sunlight up, making a room up to eight degrees cooler,” he said. -he explains.
The content creator even tested the method and revealed that in the room where he opened the blinds, his bedroom was eight degrees colder.
He noted that by turning his blinds he was able to “lower his electric bill”. DJ said his bill went from $16 a day to $10.74 a day.

Experts have confirmed this to be true as it helps to direct the airflow towards the ceiling.
