It comes after fashion store Boohoo was accused of using a clothing factory where workers’ wages were below the minimum wage.

Boohoo itself has called for stricter rules and says it “wholeheartedly endorses” the British Retail Consortium’s (BRC) call for “fit to trade”.

BRC boss Helen Dickinson said the licensing proposals were a “critical step” in efforts to help vulnerable workers.
