BBC One show Interior Design Masters has reached its aesthetic crescendo at the majestic Blenheim Palace, with the two remaining contestants taking opposite approaches to try to impress the judges.

Designers Rosin and Matt went head to head in the latest episode of the series, which aired on Tuesday, with the pair challenged to renovate two holiday lodges in the grounds of the historic country estate where Sir Winston Churchill was born.

An emotional Rosin was crowned the winner after winning over the judges – Michelle Ogundehin and American designer Jonathan Adler – with her highly eclectic design, which featured bold floral wallpaper, including on the ceilings, a yellow living room shiny and abundant scalloped fringes.

However, the kettle design divided viewers, with many suggesting that the collision of colors and use of patterns was “headache-inducing” and at odds with the peaceful rural setting.

Meanwhile, Matt opted for a “haunting” look, using black paneling and paint for the hallways, a black rail in the living room area, and a gold-leafed kitchen island.

He placed modern gold chandeliers and baroque art on the walls to reflect the palace’s grand décor, and host Alan Carr declared “Matt for the win”… but then uttered the same words to rival Rosin.

Unfortunately for Matt, however, the judges were more impressed with Rosin’s explosion of color, suggesting that Matt’s sofa wasn’t big enough in the living room and that he had spent too much time lining the bedrooms.

When judge Michelle finally announced the winner, Matt looked as grumpy as his decor at the results, viewers noticed.

On social media, many suggested the talented young designer had been “stolen”, suggesting Rosin’s dizzying décor was too much for a tourist stay.

One wrote: ‘Matt from Interior Design Masters really can’t hide how pissed he is about losing.

Another wrote: ‘Rosin is gorgeous BUT Matt got robbed. Her plan was elegant and professional and she hit the nail on the head.’

One furious viewer raged: “One designer followed instructions and the other went crazy. Totally wrong and unfair decision. Matt, you won.

Another didn’t mince his words, writing: “I laughed… as if that explosion of horrendous mess of color was top-notch design – if they gave me that hostel in Blenheim I’d leave.” I loved the other one: elegant and relaxing. The winner was like the vomiting room. Sorry, I love the series, but really?

However, Rosin’s colorful rooms, including the ceiling wallpaper, also won fans, including one who wrote: “I’m so glad she won!” I love Matt, but Rosin always wins for me, it’s amazing!’

The designer, who started decorating her parents’ home and has an unabashed love of bright colors, said lifting the trophy “really is a dream come true.”

Meanwhile, a disappointed Matt told viewers: ‘I don’t regret anything. I did it, I showed what I could do, I stood my ground and you know that’s what got me here. I’m happy.’

Rosin will now have the opportunity to design a collection of home goods with La Redoute.
