L'Enclume in Cumbria ranked first in La Liste's top 1,000 restaurants in the world

Dozens of Britain’s best restaurants have been named among the best in the world, according to a prestigious guide.

The Ritz, Gordon Ramsey’s London restaurant and Heston Blumenthal’s The Fat Duck in Berkshire are just some of the UK’s top establishments that have been ranked among the world’s top 1,000.

This is stated by the French gastronomic guide La Liste, which claims to be “the world reference for gastronomy.”

A total of 75 British restaurants feature on the list, but only one, L’Enclume in Cumbria, is ranked one of the best in the world.

It is the second time Simon Rogan’s renowned restaurant, which offers a 15-course tasting menu for £250, has taken the top spot in the rankings.

The three-star Michelin restaurant received a near-perfect score of 99.50 percent out of 100, based on La Liste’s sophisticated rating system.

Among the first places are also the Cheval Blanc by Peter Knogl in Basel (Switzerland), La Vague d’Or by Arnaud Donckele in Saint-Tropez (France) and the Guy Savoy in Paris.

MailOnline has put together an interactive map below that allows you to explore the UK’s best restaurants and find out which one is closest to you.

The Lake District restaurant L’Enclume, opened by Rogan in 2002, is almost self-sufficient with most produce grown on Rogan’s nearby 12-acre farm.

Its name, which is French for anvil, comes from the restaurant’s past life as a former wheel manufacturer.

The gastronomic offering is classic, with seasonal products such as bee pollen, elderflower and nasturtium giving additional shine to Chef Rogan’s dishes.

Deep in the countryside, L’Enclume also has room for a hotel and staff are always on hand to offer advice on countryside trips, starting with a look at Rogan’s extensive fruit and vegetable gardens.

Commenting on his prestigious achievement, the chef said: ‘As the only British restaurant to achieve the number one spot in La Liste’s nine-year history, this is a moment of immense pride for our entire team.

“Representing British food on this global stage seems really significant as it showcases the incredible talent of our food scene, not just in London but across the country. It’s an exciting and important time for UK restaurants.

“Thank you so much to our guests and friends – your support means everything and we never take it for granted.”

Rogan, whose restaurants have eight Michelin stars worldwide and two green Michelin stars, is credited with transforming the UK food scene with his approach to farm-to-table cuisine.
