Mosquera’s goal came in the fifth minute of stoppage time in the first half.

Alvaro Barreal took the corner kick and sent a cross with his left foot towards the net. Mosquera was right there on the doorstep to head the ball, which deflected off Callender’s left hand on its way to finding the net.

Miami had the opportunity to tie the score in the 65th minute, but Franco Negri’s left-footed missile hit the crossbar and crossed the net.

Cincinnati had a chance to make it 2-0 in the 79th minute but superstar Brandon Vazquez rebounded with a header wide left. Vazquez scored five goals in seven games against Miami.

In the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time, Cincinnati came up empty again as Dominique Bagge hit the ball just in front of the goal but sent it over the crossbar.

Cincinnati had an 11-10 lead in shooting and put four on target to Miami’s three.

In the first half, Cincinnati’s Brenner had a powerful chance in the 33rd minute, but his right-footed volley deflected into Callender’s net.

Five minutes later, Rodolfo Pizarro was brought down by Cincinnati’s Marco Angulo and Miami was awarded a penalty.

But a video review of the play showed that the contact came from just outside the penalty area and the penalty was nullified.
