Inter Miami fans turned on coach Phil Neville on Wednesday night, waving signs calling for his dismissal following his loss to the New York Red Bulls.
Miami is last in the Eastern Conference and has two wins in its last 13 games, along with a miserable 15 points tally in as many games.
The Red Bulls, rebuilt under new coach Troy Lesesne, took three points thanks to a second-half goal from Tom Barlow on a rainy night in Miami – the weather delayed the start of the game by nearly 50 minutes .
Miami missed a penalty in the opening minutes of the game, Leonardo Campagna sending a tame effort straight at goalkeeper Carlos Coronel.
Neville came out fighting in his post-game press conference as he lamented another game where Miami had plenty of possession but, again, very little in terms of cutting edge in the final third.

Neville and Miami – last in the MLS Eastern Conference – were beaten again on Wednesday night
“Our results haven’t been good enough,” Neville admitted. “We have to accept the criticisms that are directed at us.
“Honestly, I don’t think there was a team that came (to Miami Stadium) that was better than us,” he added. “I sincerely think that.”
It comes on the same day that reports have resurfaced that the David Beckham-owned franchise may have new hope over an incredible deal to sign Lionel Messi.
Reports have claimed that Messi will sign for Miami and loan him to Barcelona for a fairytale return to the team where he spent the golden years of his career. He would eventually head to MLS next with Miami.
But in the meantime, Beckham and his co-owners Jorge and Jose Mas have a big decision to make on Neville.
There were tentative signs of a return to form for Miami earlier in May with back-to-back league wins over Atlanta United and New England.
But now Neville’s team is spiraling again. Speaking before the game, Neville called on his players to take inspiration from the Miami Heat’s run to the NBA Finals.
Unfortunately for the former Manchester United player, his team didn’t look inspired at all. As fan discontent grows, Neville runs out of road.
Next up is a familiar face for Neville – if he’s still in charge on Saturday night – with Wayne Rooney’s DC United as their next opponent.
