Central defender Milan Skriniar and AC Milan winger Rafael Leao are each preparing to sign new contracts with their San Siro clubs, dealing major transfer blows to Chelsea and Manchester United, according to reports.

The Slovakian defender attracted a lot of interest last summer from a handful of top European clubs, including PSG and Chelsea, who ultimately chose to sign Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana as centre-backs.

However, Skriniar is believed to remain firmly on Todd Boehly’s radar alongside Milan’s rising star Leao, who has also caught the eye of Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag.

Sports post reported on Tuesday that Manchester United were plotting a £60million bid for the Portuguese winger next summer, and that the club’s scouts had watched Chelsea’s clash with AC Milan last week in a bid to keep an eye on the winger.

For both Chelsea and United, it looks like their respective transfer plans are about to hit a bump in the road.

According to the Evening Standardboth Skriniar and Leao are ready for new contracts with their current clubs.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has also expressed interest in signing Leao next summer

Giuseppe Marotta, CEO of Inter, said: “We will meet the agents of Milan Skriniar after the match against Viktoria Plzen. There are opportunities to agree on a new deal.

“Skriniar is a top professional and he likes Inter, I’m optimistic – then it’s up to him.”

Meanwhile, Milan football director Frederic Massara insisted he was “convinced” that Leao would sign a new contract with the club in the coming days.

Three points clear of the up to six rivals in the standings, Manchester United will host the Spurs at Old Trafford, while Graham Potter’s Blues will face Brentford away on Saturday.
