Instagram has conducted tests where it hides, such as on posts in seven different countries around the world, and it will soon begin testing its hiding for some American users also. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri made the announcement today at the WIRED25 conference.
In tests that have been rolled out so far, likes are hidden from public messages in the feed, on the internet and in profiles. However, you should still be able to see how many likes a message gets – only other people can't.
The test first started in Canada and has also been rolled out to Ireland, Italy, Japan, Brazil, Australia and New Zealand. Facebook is also conducting a test to hide as counts in Australia.
