Sounds familiar? Instagram copies TikTok’s Duet feature with the launch of the new Reels Remix tool that allows you to create reaction videos on the app

  • Instagram today launched a new feature worldwide called Reels Remix
  • The tool allows people to create their own reel in addition to an existing reel
  • It’s very similar to TikTok’s Duet feature, which has been available since 2017

Instagram launched a new feature this afternoon – and TikTok fans will likely recognize it.

The Facebook app has introduced Reels Remix, which allows users to create reaction videos for other Reels in the app.

The feature is very similar to TikTok’s Duet feature, which launched in 2017, allowing users to comment on other users’ clip and interact with the original video.

How to Make a Reels Remix

1. Open the Instagram app and tap the Roles icon in the center of the bottom bar

2. Find a reel you want to comment on and tap the 3 dot menu before selecting ‘Remix this Reel’.

3. Record and edit your video using the slider icon at the top to edit the volume of the original audio and your recorded audio, and the microphone icon to record your own voice over

4. Once you are satisfied with your video, simply post it to Instagram and it will appear on your profile

Instagram announced the Remix on Reels feature ahead of tonight’s global launch.

“Tonight we are launching Remix on Reels, a new creative tool that allows people to create their own reel in addition to an existing reel,” explains a spokesperson.

“Whether you’re capturing a comment, commenting on your friends, or getting involved with the latest trends – Remix unlocks a fun new way to create, share your comment, and add your individual perspective.”

To try Reels Remix for yourself, just open the Instagram app and tap the Reels icon in the center of the bottom bar.

Find a reel you want to comment on and tap the three dot menu before selecting ‘Remix this Reel’.

The screen will split in half, with the original Reel on the left and your new ‘Remix’ on the right.

Record and edit your video using the slider icon at the top to edit the volume of the original audio and your recorded audio, and the microphone icon to record your own voiceover.

Once you’re happy with your video, you can just post it to Instagram and it will show up on your profile!

Instagram hopes the new tool will encourage collaboration and creativity on the platform.

It added: ‘Interactive tools like Live Rooms, polls and questions in Stories and AR Effects have always been a big part of how people connect on Instagram.

‘We are excited to bring this collaboration magic to Reels and provide people with more ways to create and connect with the trends, songs and creators of our culture on Instagram.

TikTok has become the must-have app for young social media fans, now surpassing Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger in hours per use.

Data from App Annie showed that the monthly time spent on TikTok per user grew faster than almost any other app analyzed, including 70 percent in the US and 80 percent in the UK – more than Facebook.

According to App Annie, TikTok is now on track to reach 1.2 billion active users by 2021.
