Inside Pip Edwards’ incredible makeover and to the top of the fashion industry

She may be known today as the founder of the luxury activewear label PE Nation.

But before becoming a celebrated fashion mogul herself, Pip Edwards had a humble start in the industry in 2004 when she was hired as a “sexytary” for her ex-partner Dan Single’s Ksubi label.

Single had founded the denim brand, then known as Tsubi, in 1999 with his friends Gareth Moody and George Gorrow.

The unusual position turned out to be the opportunity of a lifetime for Edwards, now 41, who once rose to fame when he opened Tsubi’s first store in Bondi Beach.

Joining the company would change her life in more ways than one – not only did she climb up the ranks of Ksubi to become a chief designer, but she also fell in love with Single and welcomed a child with him.

“When I first started my job at Ksubi, I was… [Single’s] PA and my title was “Legendary Sexytary” – but of course I sat next to him every day… I fell madly in love with him,” Edwards told The Sydney Morning Herald in 2017.

It wasn’t long before Edwards took up residence in Single’s South Bondi pad, and they quickly established themselves as the king and queen of Sydney’s social scene.

Meanwhile, Edwards transitioned from PA to publicist and lead women’s clothing designer.

In 2006, the couple welcomed a son, Justice Maximus Single, who is now 14.

Edwards and Single, who never married, split two years later, but her professional ambitions remained intact.

In 2008 Edwards joined trad Sass & Bide as senior creative and accessory designer. Four years later, in 2012, she was sold by General Pants Co. hired as design director.

Both roles were pivotal in developing her design skills, business nous and personal style.

In 2016, she launched PE Nation with business partner Claire Tregoning, capitalizing on the burgeoning activewear-as-fashion trend at the right time.

She would become the brand’s most powerful ad, serving as a walking billboard for the label at every opportunity.

Edwards made a style statement on Thursday as she attended Australian Fashion Week in Sydney.

She dressed to impress in a short white shirt from her own label, flared pleated pants and a PE Nation belt.

The mum of one kept her makeup simple with a glowing base, mascara, a hint of blush and nude pink lipstick.

She has styled her shoulder length bob straight with a center parting.

Edwards’ Fashion Week outfit for 2021 is a far cry from her look 17 years ago when she made her debut on the Australian fashion scene.

In 2004, she attended the opening of the first Ksubi store in Bondi Beach.

She was right about the style of the time and opted for a pink polkadot cardigan with a purple Chanel T-shirt.

But her mullet-and-rattail haircut might have been a bit of a shame.
