Coldplay took home the award for most memorable moment of Glastonbury 2024, when they performed a surprise duet with Hollywood legend Michael J. Fox during their headline performance on Saturday night.
Miguel He played the guitar from his wheelchair, in the midst of his battle against Parkinson’s, alongside the band Humankind and Fix You before an excited crowd of 100,000 people.
And it was a full circle moment for the band’s frontman Chris Martin, 47, who revealed how his chart-topping band wouldn’t exist without the Back to the Future star, 63.
Chris movingly said to the excited crowd: “The main reason we’re in a band is to see Back to the Future.”

‘So thank you to our eternal hero and one of the most wonderful people on Earth, Mr. Michael J. Fox. Thank you very much, Michael.’
It is not the first time that the band, made up of Chris, Will Champion, Johnny Buckland and Guy Berryman, have done a duet with Michael.
Chris previously spoke about how seeing Michael playing Johnny B. Goode in an iconic scene from 1985’s Back to the Future was his inspiration to become a musician and form his band at University College London in 1996.
“That’s what made me want to be in a band, you know? That scene, yeah,” he told Kelly Clarkson on her talk show in 2022:
Michael previously appeared with the band during their 2016 concert in New York and performed songs from their hit film.
The 2016 appearance was a request from Chris’s then ten-year-old son Moses, and a requested video was played for the audience before the surprise appearance.
In it, Moses, whose mother is actress Gwyneth Paltrow, turned to his father and said, “I was wondering if you could play a song from our two favorite movies, Back to the Future. I love you so much.”
“Well, if your son asks you to do something…” Chris said, before launching into The Penguins’ Earth Angel, one of the songs Fox’s character Marty McFly performed at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance in Back To The Future, before the actor appeared on stage.

After the 2016 performance, Chris said that doing a duet with Michael was “our dream come true.”
The band and actor then began performing Chuck Berry’s Johnny B. Goode.
‘Our hero!’ Chris shouted as the song came to an end. ‘Michael J. Fox!’ before adding that it was “our dream come true.”
Elsewhere in the sacrificial circle, Moses, now 18, was seen watching his father’s Glastonbury slot on Saturday alongside his older sister Apple, 20, and friends.
Three years before Moses’ request for the 2016 concert, Coldplay and Michael performed together at a benefit show in New York City for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

Michael created the Michael J. Fox Foundation in 2008, years after going public with his Parkinson’s disease.
In an Instagram post on Sunday, Michael echoed Chris’ effusive praise over the year and admitted that the experience was “fucking mind-blowing.”
‘Glastonbury, all the love and thanks to the @coldplay team who treated us so well. And many thanks to Chris, Will, Johnny, Guy and Phil.’
‘Oh yeah, in case you were wondering… it was crazy. There is a time for every band and a band for every moment. This is @Coldplay’ moment.
