Comedian Ash Williams has urged Australian influencers to be diligent after being the target of an email scam.
Taking to Instagram, the 42-year-old revealed that he was asked to be a guest on an American podcast with designer Jennifer Welch.
The media personality said he was contacted by Welch’s alleged manager, Stefan, who offered him $2,000 to appear as a guest on an episode of Jennifer’s podcast via Facebook Live.
After accepting the offer, Ash was told they would pay him up front and book him for the following week.
Stefan later responded via email requesting that a Zoom meeting be set up to ensure Ash’s Facebook is set up for the live event.

Ash noticed that after logging into the Zoom meeting, Stefan, who supposedly spoke with a Scandinavian accent, had kept his camera off.
While in the Zoom meeting, Stefan asked Ash to share the screen of his Facebook page.
“So I’m on Facebook and he’s like, ‘Oh, I see you’re not set up for live events. You need to email yourself a link and then send me the link. ‘I’m thinking maybe this might be dodgy.’ Ash revealed.
As the Zoom call progressed, Ash’s friend who was sitting nearby noticed Stefan’s suspicious behavior and urged Williams to disconnect the call.
On Instagram, the 42-year-old revealed that he was asked to be a guest on an American podcast with a designer called Jennifer Welch.
The media personality said he was contacted by Welch’s alleged manager.
Ash said that to test Stefan’s authenticity, he asked him to call again and never received a response.
“My friend looked it up and this podcast scam has been offering artists and influencers blah blah around $2,000 US dollars to be on a podcast,” Ash revealed.
‘I don’t know what Stefan’s ultimate goal is. “I think he just wanted to get into the back of my Facebook and I think I stopped him,” he added.
One content creator commented on the video to share their experiences, writing: ‘I get a ton of these. I always wondered what the scam was. Thanks for the explanation. You don’t know anything about show business.
The manager offered Ash $2,000 to appear as a guest on an episode of Jennifer’s podcast via Facebook live, but then attempted to gain access to his personal information.
