A Brazilian influencer has died after receiving general anesthesia for a new tattoo on her back.

To perform the mass inking, Ricardo Godoi, 45, hired a tattoo studio, who allegedly rented a private hospital with all the equipment, staff and medications needed to perform it.

He is said to have suffered cardiac arrest on Monday on the operating table at the hospital, located in the coastal city of Itapema, in the southern state of Santa Catarina.

Shortly before the tragedy, he had told his 218,000 Instagram followers in a message: “I am about to undergo surgery and I won’t be back here until after four in the afternoon.”

Ricardo, who had built a successful business importing and selling luxury sports cars, including Ferraris and Lamborghinis, leaves behind a wife and children.

A police investigation has been launched into his death, which continues today.

The owner of the tattoo studio that was going to tattoo Ricardo said: ‘What happened was that, upon starting the sedation and intubation, he went into cardiac arrest.

“That happened before they even started tattooing him. They quickly examined him and called a cardiologist to try to revive him, unfortunately without success.’

They added that Ricardo, in addition to being a client, had been a “great friend” and that the studio “deeply regrets” his death.
