Influencer Criticized for Insensitive Snobbery Regarding Weekly Shopping Expenses During Cost of Living Crisis

Date:

One influencer was criticized as “shameless in touch” after attacking people eating a diet of white bread and chips and then questioning why they were sick.

Olympia Anley admitted she was “arrogant” about people’s weekly store — and continued to lash out at shoppers who get processed food, claiming they choose to put “cr*p” in their bodies.

The UK-based TikToker, 20, who studies in Bristol, slammed items she saw a woman in the supermarket buying – which included ‘junk food’ and ‘bags’ of medicine.

“I don’t want to offend anyone with this video,” she told her followers in a clip that has since garnered more than 1.1 million views.

But we live in a society that normalizes and literally encourages treating the symptoms, not the cause. And I want to talk about that.

“The thing I’m snooty about—and I’m not proud of—is people’s food stores.”

Olympia — who has 322,800 followers and most of whom create vlog-style videos of her luxurious lifestyle — continued focusing on the woman she saw previously.

“I was at the supermarket this afternoon just doing my food shop and the woman in front of me,” she recounted.

“Just for context, she might have been having a party—I don’t know if she was going to eat it or to whom the food was—but she was properly carrying all this junk; White bread, potato chips, a bowl of pasta all that kind of thing.

On top of that, her basket was filled with “a lot of medicine,” the influencer said.

“I couldn’t believe it,” she said. Anyway it was very contradictory to me.

Again, no judgment, and I don’t know her personal situation, but she really spoke to me about how we don’t pay enough attention to what we put in our bodies and then drug it until we can. “I don’t feel what’s going on inside.”

She added, “Now I’m not a nutritionist or a functional health practitioner, but you ingest cr*p, you feel cr*p.

She explained that if the social media star gets really down, she might do a fundraiser or donate healthy meals to food banks.

You also suffer from “all kinds of ailments,” “symptoms,” and “illness” that “arise as a result of not taking proper care of your body,” Olympia said.

However, while I turned off the comments on the viral video, TikTokers found ways to show their frustration.

A fellow influencer called her out for being “shamelessly out of touch.”

Another stitched the clip into her own style, slamming Olympia’s “judgmental” tone – as she sat in her planned open house…which had cost her millions of pounds, judging a woman for feeding her family.

“Other people are sleeping, and they literally have to choose between feeding themselves or keeping themselves warm,” said user Flo (@florahsrecovery).

“And the thing is, I don’t do injustice to anyone who is rich enough… to lead a healthy lifestyle.

“You do, you become successful, good damn you and I hope you make a difference in the world.

“My problem is people in one particular demographic judge other people based on other demographics.”

She explained that if the social media star gets really down, she might do a fundraiser or donate healthy meals to food banks.

“Fancy foods last a long time, you can get them for 70p,” Flo continued. Same with chips, snacks, and “junk food.”

She also criticized Olympia’s attitude throughout the clip.

“What makes this video worse is that she has said on several occasions that she is not ruling… while ruling… and then tried to pin the blame on ‘big pharma’.”

Flew said the issue had nothing to do with pharmaceuticals, but with food poverty in the UK.

She said, “If you want to blame someone, blame the ‘right people’.”

“What a government…you guys are the kind who still vote conservative in the general election.”

Flew’s speech was praised by many, who agreed the issue overshadowed the cost-of-living crisis – which health chiefs warned only last month. He is fueling a “second health emergency” in three years after the COVID-19 pandemic pushed desperate families to the brink.

‘Yes! Say it louder,” one comment was praised. “Low-income families are being judged, given that we have to choose which bill we don’t pay so we can buy an Aldi store!”

Another simply said: “People are poor.”

A third added elsewhere: ‘Everything is rooted in class and I’m sick of rich people pretending they care about people’s health because they don’t. It’s an excuse to be terrible.

Some even shared their struggles.

“My food store has gone up by £65 a week in the last three months, because food has gone crazy, I’m trying to give my kids the best food they can eat.”

Meanwhile, others have been confused by the association with medication and sachets.

One of them said, “What killed me was her talk about the ‘drugs’ that the lady used to buy from the supermarket.” “What, paracetamol and ibuprofen??”
