Harry Lawtey insists his bawdy sex scenes in the hit drama Industry were “just another day at the office” and should be seen as a symbolic “power exchange” rather than unwarranted and overblown exposure.

Set in the heart of Canary Wharf, London’s sprawling financial hub, the show centers on a group of ambitious young graduates as they try to carve out a career in the fast-paced and cut-throat world of investment banking, by any means necessary. .

Lawtey stars as optimistic, arrogant and often coke addict Robert Spearing, an Oxford graduate with working-class Welsh roots and a seemingly insatiable sexual appetite.

But he believes the show’s frequent and graphic illustrations of sex play an important role in symbolizing its power-hungry characters.

speaking to The timesLawtey, 27, admitted he was prompted to consider its relevance when a fan recently commented “it’s interesting that there’s so much sex on a show that’s about money.”

“And I hope the sex scenes don’t feel gratuitous,” she added. They are all an exchange of power. They’re very transactional, in a way. And that’s not to say they’re not romantic. You can have both.

A memorable scene from his first series (the show was recently renewed for a third) sees Spearing ejaculate in a mirror, but the actor has since laughed as part of the job.

“Just another day at the office,” he joked.

The BBC financial drama has wowed viewers with its steamy sex scenes, with one viewer calling for “more banking, less sex.”

During its first series, which aired in 2020, the characters were seen engaging in oral sex, stripping down to lingerie, and secretly watching porn, while spending relatively little time in the office.

Elsewhere, there were scenes of drug use, full frontal nudity, and X-rated sexting.

While some viewers are delighted with the seedy version of the city, others have called for more attention to be paid to the action outside of the bedroom.

One tweeted: “I would love a little more banking and a little less sex.”

Another published: “A lot of hit, very little banking.”

However, the drama turned out to be a hit with viewers, with many comparing it to Skins.

One tweeted: “#IndustryHBO is literally corporate skins and I’m here for it.”

Another enthusiastic viewer posted: ‘The industry is shaping up to be an amazing series. It goes from 0 to 100. Very fast.

While a third added: ‘We’ve got it all… Sex, Drugs, Beautiful people, Relatively attractive Irish, Awkward work dinners… What more could you ask for!!!??’

Raunchy: During its first series, the characters were seen engaging in oral sex, stripping down to lingerie, and secretly watching porn, while spending little time in the office.
