A parent at a Queensland secondary school where a teacher has been accused of grooming and performing an “indecent act” on a student said the teacher was very popular with the students.
Chelsea Jane Edwards, 28, from Paradise Point, south-east Brisbane, was charged with two counts of grooming and one count of indecent treatment of a child under 16 while working at Indooroopilly State School.
The mother, who has children in grades 11 and 8, said late Monday that the school community had not been notified at all, despite the fact that she was out for more than a week after she was charged on March.

Police allege the teacher met the teenager through an Indooroopilly education center and began grooming him as early as July last year when the couple met outside of school socially.
On Tuesday, Chief Executive Michael Hornby wrote to the school community to address the ‘allegations of a serious nature’.
In the letter, Mr. Hornby assured the school community that they would provide support during the ordeal.
“First of all, I want to assure you that we treat the safety and well-being of our children, our students, as our highest priority at all times,” he wrote.

The state’s Child Protection and Investigation Unit learned of the teacher’s alleged actions in February after a complaint was filed.
In that regard, I ask that you consider refraining from providing feedback on the matter on social media or other forums.
