Indian tries to prevent police from traveling on a public road through Aboriginal land

- He forbade them to enter the Muruwari land
- He used a parked car to block a public road
An Aboriginal man has tried to prevent a pair of police officers from entering Indigenous land by using his car to block a public road.
Bruce Makudda Shillingsworth, a proud Muruwari and Budjiti man, filmed himself confronting officers in outback New South Wales in a video posted to social media this week.
Here we have the police. What happens is that they are going out to the Muruwari country, they are thinking that they have authority. I’m going to ask you right here if you have jurisdiction,” he tells the camera.
One of the officers quickly intervenes, telling him: ‘You are blocking a public road.’

“You are blocking a road, move your vehicle,” adds the other officer.
‘This is a road in New South Wales.’
“This is Muruwari land,” repeats Mr Shillingsworth before telling the officers that they are not allowed onto traditional aboriginal land.
“There are things that are happening and I know why they are coming out,” he says.
‘My name is Bruce Junior Shillingsworth, and I am a Muruwari man.’
“I’m a police officer,” one of the policemen replies.
‘I’m giving you an address to move your car. If you do not comply with that instruction, you may be committing a crime.’
Mr. Shillingsworth then claims that he is a “law enforcement officer”.

‘You are committing a crime because that land from here on out is Muruwari land and you should know it,’ he tells the officer.
Are you saying we’re not on it yet? the policeman responds before the video cuts out.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted NSW Police for comment.
Muruwari land stretches over 16,000 square meters from Barringun on the Queensland/New South Wales border to Mulga Downs and Weela in south Queensland.
Includes Enngonia on the Warrego River, Brenda and Weilmoringle on the Culgoa River, and as far south as Milroy and Collerina in NSW.
