Indianapolis Colts receive major update on Anthony Richardson after hip issue forced QB to miss Steelers win

Anthony Richardson appears to have avoided a major injury after going down with an injury on Sunday.

Anthony Richardson could return to the Indianapolis Colts next Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, even though a hip problem forced him to miss the weekend’s win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

According to NFL Network reporter Cameron Wolfe, Richardson had a hip problem but otherwise avoided a serious injury.

It’s a huge relief for the Colts, who drafted Richardson in 2023 only to have the quarterback play in four games before shoulder surgery derailed his rookie year.

Richardson was injured in a helmet-to-helmet collision with Minkah Fitzpatrick in the first quarter of Sunday’s game, which the Colts won 27-24.

Speaking after Sunday’s game, Richardson appeared to allay concerns that he was seriously injured.

‘I feel a little sore. I think I’ll be fine. Just a little pain,’ he said. “I tried to get back out, but I couldn’t accelerate like I wanted to.

“So (Steichen) was like trying not to ruin the team right now, so I was like, ‘I’ll just sit.’

“I really wanted to get back out there with my team. I wanted to contribute to the W. I think I did a little bit, but I wanted to be there all the time. But thanks to my guys for getting the W today.”

Richardson, 22, was replaced by Joe Flacco, 39, who went viral with his postgame interview following the win.

Aditi Kinkhabwala told her that Richarson said Flacco was “cooler than I thought,” to which the backup said, “Listen, he told me his mom is eight days older than me.”

‘So there’s no chance in the world that he’ll think I’m cool!’

Sunday’s win over the Steelers leaves the Colts at 2-2 for the season and next Sunday’s opponents, the Jaguars, are 0-4 so far.
