Indiana University junior, 20, found in his dorm had been ‘dead’ for a while as police rule out foul play, but his brother says autopsy showed ‘no signs of self-harm’

An Indiana University student has been found dead in his dormitory by campus police conducting a welfare check at the request of the victim’s brother.
Jose Mario ‘Joma’ Leonardo, 20, of Indianapolis, was found unresponsive in an Eigenmann Hall room in Bloomington last Thursday.
IU police officers went to Leonardo’s room at 6:40 PM to perform a welfare check after contacting his brother, who told them he hadn’t heard from him for a while.

Police said Leonardo had appeared dead for a while. Foul play is not suspected at this time Indianapolis Star.
Leonardo was a junior and resident life coordinator at IU. He would graduate next year.
His brother Koji Leonardo revealed in a Facebook post that preliminary autopsy results showed no signs of self-harm or foul play.
He also wrote that no cause of death has been determined to date.

“You’ve touched many people’s lives and you’ve shone your kindness over everyone,” the brother wrote in a status update Friday. ‘I’ll always look up to you. I will always be there for you and I am happy to call you my best friend and brother. ‘
Leonardo was a member of the College Democrats group at Indiana University, which posted a message on his Facebook page mourning his death.
Those who knew Joma were inspired by his commitment to progressive change, and we will work to make the change he wanted to see to honor his legacy. He will be sorely missed, ”the post read.
