An Indiana mother was shocked and scared when she thought her seven-day-old baby had been kidnapped outside a daycare.

Sabriya Miles was dropping her four-year-old son off at daycare in Evansville and left newborn Adrian in the back seat of her gold Chevy when she noticed a stranger getting into her vehicle and speeding away.

‘I’m a good mom’, Miles he insisted to WFIE. “It was two seconds.”

But in a surprising twist, the car was being repossessed and police say the impound man didn’t know there was a baby inside the car when he took it.

Miles, who has two other children, said she watched in horror as the stranger drove away on June 6, worried that her newborn was being kidnapped.

She and another mother then chased the car down the street, but to no avail, leaving the new mother in a panic as she reported a possible kidnapping to local police.

For several minutes, Miles said she was speechless as she and another mother tried to chase the vehicle.

“I couldn’t talk, I was too frustrated and I was crying,” Miles told WFIE.

‘I carried my baby for nine months and now I lost her?’

She claims she received no notice that her car was going to be repossessed before the man at the repository sped off with her newborn daughter.

Fortunately, after driving a few kilometers, the unidentified driver stopped and noticed the newborn.

He then called the police to retrieve the child. according to a GoFundMe created to raise money for a new vehicle for Miles.

She had raised more than $8,000 to buy Miles a new car and get new car seats (since the ones she had for her children were inside the vehicle) since early Friday morning.

“With the right resources and the right community support, we have the ability to completely change the trajectory of a family’s life,” said local attorney and daycare owner Tanisha Carothers, who organized the campaign.

She said she felt compelled to help after hearing Miles’ story.

“To think about the humanity of repossessing the car at a daycare center: I would have been furious if a dealership had done that to a family in my parking lot,” Carothers explained.

Evansville police say no charges will be filed against the warehouse man or Miles, explaining to the local news station that there was no kidnapping and that Miles was not negligent in leaving the newborn in the vehicle.

Still, Miles says he learned a lesson from this shocking experience.

“I’ve been a mother since I was 15 and this is the first time something like this has happened to me,” she told WFIE through tears.

“I won’t let it happen again.”
