England climbed one place to take fourth place in the last ICC Test Ranking, shortly after defeating India's visitors 4-1 in the series just concluded. England, with 105 points dethroned New Zealand (102 points) to take fourth place. Meanwhile, India after its poor run in the series maintained its first position with 115 points. England won eight points of the series against India. They had started the series in fifth place with 97 points.

The home team won the first test with a narrow margin of 31 races against India. England, later overtook the visitors to record the victory by one chance and 159 races in the second Test. The massive victory was followed by his only defeat at the Trent Bridge and a 60-race victory at Southampton.

England, therefore, is one point behind Australia and South Africa, which share 106 points each in the Test ranking.

England will face sixth-placed Sri Lanka in their next round of tests, which is scheduled to begin on November 6 at the Galle International Stadium in Galle.

India, on the other hand, dropped 10 points after starting its series with 125 points.

India will host the West Indies in the next round of tests, and the first match is scheduled to begin on October 4 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
