During Independence Day celebrations, guns broke out in cities across the United States, killing tens of people and killing at least 14.
Chicago seemed to experience the worst violence on Saturday when 30 people were shot and eight killed, including two children.
New York City, Memphis, Omaha, Cleveland and several other cities were also rocked by a wave of shootings amid the revelry.
One of the children murdered in Chicago was identified by her family as seven-year-old Natalie Wallace.
The girl was playing outside her grandmother’s house in the Austin neighborhood of the city at a party on July 4, when a car stopped and three men emerged and started shooting indiscriminately around 7 p.m.

Natalie was shot in the head and rushed to the hospital, where police said she was pronounced dead Chicago Tribune.
“Chicago’s heart is broken,” said Chicago police chief Fred Waller. “A 7-year-old girl was taken from us. She was visiting family here. Now she’s gone. ‘
Mayor Lori Lightfoot tweeted: “Tonight, a 7-year-old girl in Austin joined a list of teens and children whose hopes and dreams were ended by the barrel of a gun.
“We can’t get numb from this. We are making progress in delaying withdrawals, but we all need to do it better. ‘
Seven other people were injured in the same attack in Austin, including a 32-year-old man who is now in fair condition.
Waller said police are watching the video of the incident and no arrests have been made.
Another shooting in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago killed four, including a 14-year-old boy who has not yet been identified.
Four others were injured in the shooting, including boys aged 11 and 15.
The Tribune reported that four men stormed a holiday gathering and opened fire before fleeing the scene. They have yet to be arrested.
Three other shootings in Chicago on Saturday killed a 34-year-old woman, a 31-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, per ABC7.
Saturday was the third consecutive weekend in town, where a child under 10 was fatally shot.
The Chicago police deployed 1,200 additional officers over the weekend with the aim of reducing the violence that accompanies the vacation each year.
“It’s not just the police. Not only with the fire brigade. Not just elected officials, ”Mayor Lightfoot said in an announcement of the increased police presence.
“We all need to embrace our understanding of community and think about what we can do, each of us in our own way, to make our communities safe, healthy and vibrant.”

Many other cities reported an alarming increase in gunshots mixed with the festive fireworks on Saturday.
In New York City, at least two people were killed and ten injured in nighttime shootings, police said.
A 20-year-old man died after being shot in the breast at around 12.45 in Brooklyn.
Less than two hours later, a 23-year-old man in Harlem was shot in the back before being rushed to hospital.
Authorities said the man, who was not identified, did not cooperate when interviewed by the police before dying in the hospital.
That shooting is still under investigation as detectives shield the area from ballistic evidence and video.
Details about the other recordings in the Big Apple were not immediately available.
They came after the city experienced its deadliest June in 24 years with 205 reported shootings.

A teenager in the Whitehaven neighborhood was rushed to hospital in a critical condition after neighbors reported hearing an argument in a house before gunfire broke out.
“We were here,” said a witness from that shooting. “We were just fixing our tables, and before we know it, we see the ambulances going everywhere and then the police came. I said, “What happened here?”
“I can just imagine what the other people’s family does, what they go through,” added the witness.

About 30 minutes later, a woman was driving on Interstate 240 when a man in a gold Pontiac started firing at her vehicle.
Police said the woman is fine, but the suspect was not caught.
Two men were injured in a new shooting in South Memphis on Saturday evening.
One of the men told WREG that he was backing up in his driveway on Alcy Road when he was shot by three men driving past in a Saturn Vue.
“When I walked back down the street, I paused a bit because I heard a lot of fireworks, which I thought was fireworks, but they were gunshots,” said the man.
The first victim said the attack seemed random.
“They just shoot,” he said. “The car was in front of them and they just shoot. They don’t know those people. They just shoot at those people because they were standing in front of them. ‘
No arrests were made in any of the Memphis shootings, police said.
At least five shootings were reported in Cleveland in the first five hours of July 4, injuring four people.
And in Omaha, Nebraska, police have asked the public for information on six separate shootings reported between Friday evening and early Saturday morning.
Eight people were injured in those shootings and they are all expected to recover.

Authorities in Greenville County, South Carolina are currently investigating a nightclub shooting that killed two and injured eight.
Video footage on social media showed people what appeared to be a rap concert at the club. The clip shows people inside the club rushing to the exit before the screen goes black and gunshots are heard in the background.
Two Greenville County Sheriff’s deputies noticed a disturbance in Lavish Lounge just before 2 a.m. and saw a large crowd running out of the building, Sheriff Hobart Lewis said at a news conference.
Lewis said Greenville News the incident was ‘probably gang related’. He said authorities are looking for two suspects, although no physical description of the shooters was released on Sunday morning.
