A pod of killer whales has been spotted at a popular beach in a very rare sighting.
The pod of orcas was spotted chasing humpback whales at Curl Curl Beach on Sydney’s Northern Beaches on Thursday afternoon.
Photos uploaded to Instagram by local tour operator Whale watching in Sydneycaptured the moment the creatures were seen swimming together.
“We are truly amazed today by the sighting of a huge pod of orcas,” they wrote.
“There was a flurry of activity and the orcas whizzed past the boat in formation.”
Social media users were shocked by the unusual sighting and praised the stunning photographs that were taken of the unique creatures.
“Amazing and fantastic photos!” wrote one.
“How crazy! Oh my God, how good!” said another.

Orcas are rare to see in Sydney. The last time these creatures were seen in the port city was in Botany Bay in 2018.
A pod of killer whales was recently spotted at Green Cape, near Merimbula on the New South Wales south coast in July.
The pod was first spotted in 2013, with up to 14 orcas.
That number has since been reduced to just three.
The creatures are typically found in Australian waters between June and October on the east coast.
The mammals are sighted between January and April on the west coast, but are typically seen year-round in the colder waters of Antarctica.
