According to an official plot synopsis published by Paramount+, the show is set during “the early 20th century when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition and the Great Depression plague the mountainous West and the Duttons who call it home.” .

Decay, dust, guns, and grit abound throughout the 90-second trailer as Harrison and Helen fully inhabit their tough-talking personas.

“Men kill fast with a bullet or a rope,” Mirren says, feigning an Irish purr. ‘But your fight is with me and I kill much slower.’

Premiering December 18 on Paramount+, 1923 is the second Yellowstone prequel after last year’s 1883.

That show followed the Duttons as they traveled to Montana and fought to found the family ranch.

It starred real-life couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as the central couple James and Margaret Dutton, with Sam Elliot mounting to play the rugged leader of their caravan.

Yellowstone’s fifth season premiered earlier this month, drawing 12.1 million viewers and cementing its place as a pop culture juggernaut.

The star that started it all remains 67-year-old Kevin Costner, who reportedly hosts Yellowstone for a fee of $1.3 million per episode.

1923 looks set to be a sure hit for the pair of historical stars who have saddled up to tell the story.

“If you attack my family,” says Harrison, “it will be the last thing you do.”
