The words of the French Minister of the Interior came in response to a question about the positions of the head of the far-right National Rally Party, Jordan Bardella, regarding the immigration file on the border between France and Italy.
French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin considered Thursday that Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni is “incapable of solving immigration problems” in her country, which is experiencing a “very serious migration crisis.”
“Mrs. Meloni, the far-right government chosen by friends of Ms. Marine Le Pen, is unable to solve the immigration problems after she was elected on this basis,” Darmanin told RMC radio.
His words came in response to a question about the positions of the head of the far-right National Rally Party, Jordan Bardella, regarding the immigration file on the border between France and Italy.
And Bardella had criticized, yesterday, Wednesday, during his tour of the border areas with Italy, the performance of Interior Minister Darmanan, describing him as “the little minister.”
Migration is increasing
He added, “Yes, there is an influx of migrants, especially minors,” to southern France, blaming Italy for that, saying, “The truth is that there is a political situation in Tunisia that pushes a large number of children to cross through Italy, which is now unable to deal with this pressure from migrants.”
And the French minister added, “Melloni resembles the leader of the far-right in France, Marine Le Pen. She is elected on the basis of saying that she will achieve achievements, but what we see is that immigration does not stop, but rather increases.”
The Italian Ministry of the Interior says that more than 36,000 people arrived in Italy this year across the Mediterranean, compared to about 9,000 during the same period in 2022.
