Ethan replied “Faith doesn’t want to take my name and that pisses me off”, to which his girlfriend added “No, I want to take your name, I just want to take mine too.”
She explained, “I don’t want to lose my association with my family,” while her boyfriend told her she wouldn’t.
“Then let me keep it,” she replied, but the answer was a resounding no.
Standing up, she added: “It’s a personal thing, I grew up with it my whole life, I like it, I want to keep it.”
Ethan responded that he thought taking his name was “the way it should be done.”
Even with his girlfriend offering examples of others who have opted for a double-barreled name, like Olivia Attwood-Dack, the YouTuber maintained “That’s your only example, all you do is repeat that name “.
He stated “the conditions are, if you want to be my wife, then be my wife”, and by keeping his own last name he thinks Faith is “bottling him” and is only “half” his female.
The debate sparked controversy, with viewers chiming in to say who they agreed with.

One person on Faith’s side wrote: “I wonder if he would be as passionate when his daughter grows up and wants to keep her maiden name?”
Others added, “Biggest wake-up call ever” and “Conditions? He treats her like a schoolgirl or like he’s the parent and she’s the child.
However, some agreed with Ethan or thought the couple should find a compromise.
Someone suggested “I would make Kelly my middle name and then Payne so she would always be Faith Kelly Payne.”
Another advised: “You should have these conversations before you get together/stay together. »
A viewer and her partner take a different approach and both change their names.
She wrote “My partner and I are changing our names to a completely new one when we get married, but he has never said ‘no, you have my name and that’s it'”.
