The combination of exercise and healthy eating was associated with 1.22 fewer days.

In the UK, up to 44 per cent of NHS patients have complications after undergoing major surgery, including internal bleeding, infection and stroke.

Dr. Daniel McIsaac, the study’s lead author and an anesthesiologist at The Ottawa Hospital, said, “Prehabilitation may benefit adults preparing for surgery.”

The researchers now plan to investigate the effects of personalized prehabilitation exercises, such as focusing on leg strength before knee surgery.
