Iga Swiatek dominated Maria Sakkari to win the Indian Wells Open final 6-4, 6-0 in California and win the prestigious title for the second time.
In a rematch of the 2022 final, the world number 1 came out strong, taking a 3-0 lead before the Greek came back into the set at 4-4.
Swiatek reasserted herself, however, with the Pole dragging Sakkari from one side of the court to the other before capturing the first set with a forehand winner. She dominated the second set, smashing a running backhand for a 3-0 lead and breaking serve for 4-0 as the world number 9 faded.
A backhand winner down the line put Swiatek within a game and she sealed the victory by breaking serve when Sakkari’s forehand sailed wide on match point.
“It’s an incredible thing to be here again,” Swiatek said while collecting the trophy. “It’s like home. Every year I come here, I get really positive vibes.

Carlos Alcaraz beat Daniil Medvedev in men’s final for the second year in a row
Swiatek is now 19-4 in finals and 8-2 at the WTA 1000 level, the highest level of tournaments below the Grand Slam, while Sakkari is 2-8 in finals.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t put up a better fight,” the 28-year-old said after a match lasting just over an hour. “It was quite quick, but that’s thanks to Iga. She is an incredible player, a very good person and an incredible champion.
Swiatek has won 20 matches and two titles this season, having triumphed at the Qatar Open last month. The 22-year-old will look to complete the ‘Sunshine Double’ with a victory over the next fortnight at the Miami Open, where Emma Raducanu and Simona Halep have wildcards.
The men’s final saw Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz beat Daniil Medvedev in straight sets to retain his title.
Alcaraz defeated Medvedev 7-6, 6-1 to beat the Russian for the second consecutive year in the final.
