An American woman living in London has revealed what surprised her most about our dress sense.
Aurora LoftonA management consultant from Virginia, who moved to the United Kingdom two years ago, raised a shorten to TikTok about transatlantic differences in corporate attire.
He claimed that British people always wear neutral clothes to work, unlike the brighter outfits of their colleagues in their native United States.
Many Americans were taken aback by her remarks, while Britons called on the London resident to bring more color to the capital.
Aurora Lofton, a management consultant from Virginia who moved to the big smoke a couple of years ago, uploaded a clip about the differences in corporate equipment.
She began the clip: “I’m an American girl living and working in London and one of the differences I’ve noticed about office culture is that there is a specific color palette when it comes to British corporate attire.”
Pointing to her body, she said: ‘Either you’re dressed in grey, or white, black or dark navy blue, maybe a light blue color and that’s it.
‘Maybe like a beige color, there are specific colors and that’s it. “I rarely see color on the streets of the financial district or when I go out.”
He joked: “Everyone gathered together, these are the colors, these are the five colors and those are the only colors people wear.”
He continues: “Whereas at home, it’s not that people wore eccentric colors all the time, but that there was a broader palette of options to wear at work.”
The consultant added: ‘I even have some fun colors upstairs that haven’t even seen the light of day.
‘Since I moved to this country, these are the types of colors I use and, to be honest, I can respect them. It is a muted, simple and elegant environment.”
Of her 63,000 viewers, some were surprised to hear what sartorial expectations are like on the other side of the Atlantic, while others asked Aurora to be brave and show off some color.
Pointing to her body, she said: ‘Either you’re dressed in grey, or white, black or dark navy blue, maybe a light blue color and that’s it.’
One user said: “Everything in the UK is so boring,” while another tried to shed some light on why: “It all starts with our school uniforms.”
Another shared observations with Aurora: ‘The way all the businessmen at the Bank wear the exact same blue suit with a white shirt…’
A different user said: ‘This! and when they wear coats, they’re usually black!
“The good thing about the UK is that they don’t care much if you wear other colours, you just stand out from the crowd.”
One added: “In general though most Brits wear dark colored clothing, I have no idea why but take a look when you are in a crowd.”
TikTok users largely encouraged the American to sport brighter colors, with some offering their explanations, but not everyone saw the truth in her observations.
Others urged the content creator to “bring in some color” and “introduce us to a pretty pink or yellow to relax us Brits.”
Someone even told Aurora she was “in the wrong sector” and others admitted they still wear diamonds.
‘I don’t! “I’m always in color and prints in my office and I’m a big girl,” said one, and another seemed to disagree with her remark and asked if she had been to the Notting Hill Carnival, famous for its colors. .
