Rep. Morgan Luttrell, a former Navy SEAL who represents a district in east Texas, said he supports migrant flights from the southern border to California that Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom called “kidnapping.”
Sixteen young Venezuelan and Colombian men and women were dropped off at the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sacramento on Friday after being flown from Texas, through New Mexico and to the California state capital. A second shipment with 20 migrants arrived on Monday.
Luttrell told DailyMail.com in an exclusive interview on Tuesday that he had just seen Newsom’s “ridiculous” reaction.
“I’m all in,” he said of the thefts, adding that Texas “shouldn’t be the only one to worry” about the massive influx of migrants causing chaos in border towns.
‘If you don’t care, we do. And we help. Cities around Washington, DC, Chicago and New York complain of tens of thousands of migrants. We have tens of thousands a day. You can’t argue that with me,” Luttrell continued.

He added that the state is ‘doing everything’ to help law enforcement and everyday Texans deal with the influx – which has reached as many as 10,000 illegal entries in the days leading up to the end of COVID-era Title 42 which allowed for rapid deportations at the border.
Border Patrol agents have seen a 50% drop in the number of migrants crossing from Mexico to the United States, after Title 42 officially ended on May 11, according to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas – but agents Border commuters remain outnumbered by illegal smugglers who take over local border towns.
“My Texans over there on the border are losing ranches. The infrastructure of the city itself, whether it’s police, first responders, grocery stores, restaurants, they just ended,’ said Luttrell, who sits on the House Homeland Security Committee, at DailyMail.com.
Due to the massive influx of migrants, people are also forced to sell their ranches as they lose their livestock.
“If a fence is torn down and the cattle come out on the road and someone hits the cattle, it’s the herders’ fault,” he added. “And you know, that’s just unacceptable.”
Luttrell called HR 2, a sweeping immigration and border security bill that passed the House last month by a vote of 219 to 213, a “great starting point” for border security. , But there is still a lot more to do.
According to local county sheriffs, migrants are moving deeper into Texas to quieter, more rural districts and small local populations are feeling the impact, the Texas congressman added.
Luttrell told DailyMail.com that one county’s school district was “overwhelmed” by migrants to the point that alternative buildings and teachers had to be brought in, at the expense of local residents.
As for what more the Homeland Committee can work on this Congress to address the migrant crisis, Luttrell said there was an immediate need to remove “the handcuffs from our CBP” and let them work.
“Unfortunately the administration does not allow that and so here is this friction we have.”
The migrant flights are the latest attempt to move people from border towns into the interior of the United States, to spread congestion. Busloads of migrants from Texas were recently sent to Liberal-led Chicago and Washington, D.C.
Governor Newsom said he is working with the California Department of Justice to find out if any foul play has taken place regarding the recent thefts, including who paid for the group’s trip and ‘whether the individuals orchestrating this trip have deceived someone with false promises or violated any criminal laws, including kidnapping.
He also directly accused Florida Governor Ron DeSantis of ‘kidnapping’ for organizing and funding the robberies, but it remains unclear who is behind them.
The Governor of California tweeted at Ron DeSantis on Monday saying “you pathetic little man.” It’s not Martha’s Vineyard.
He referenced DeSantis’ decision to send a group of migrants from Venezuela to the posh Massachusetts vacation spot.

State Attorney General Rob Bonta said the migrants had documents showing they had arrived from Florida.
“State-sanctioned kidnapping is not a public policy choice, it is immoral and disgusting,” Bonta wrote in a statement.
According to state officials, the migrants had already been processed by U.S. immigration officials and given hearing dates for their asylum claims when “individuals representing a private contractor” approached them in front of a migrant center in El Paso, Texas.
“They were lied to and intentionally deceived,” said Eddie Carmona, campaign manager at PICO California, a faith-based community organizing group that has helped migrants.
He added that the migrants had no idea where they were after being dropped off in Sacramento.
