A solo traveller has revealed the five countries where she felt safest during her Asian holiday.
Posting on TikTok about her experiences on the continent while travelling solo, Courtney, under the username @shetravelledtheworld, shared her bucket list on the social media platform, after visiting 19 countries in Asia.
First, she said Kyrgyzstan was fifth on her list. Being the first country she was visiting in Central Asia, the solo backpacker admitted she wasn’t sure what to expect.
She said: “I was pleasantly surprised at how safe I felt all the time, even in the capital city of Bishkek. English is not a widely spoken language, but people were always more than willing to help.”
Courtney then praised Thailand for being one of the safest countries she has visited in Asia, noting that “it’s called the land of smiles for a reason.”

She continued: “I’ve always felt at home[in Thailand]. In fact, I’d say that more than anything, the people who make you feel unsafe in the country are the rowdy tourists.”
‘But if this isn’t what you’re looking for, there are plenty more quiet places in the country that are off the beaten tourist trail.’
Thirdly, Courtney chose Indonesia as another Asian country that she felt deserved praise for how safe she felt during her visit.
The vlogger singled out Bali in particular for how hospitable they were to her, commenting: “It’s true that Balinese people are ridiculously friendly and helpful.”
‘I have also ventured to East Java and Lombok, along with some of the smaller islands surrounding Bali and can confirm that the people are just as friendly.’
When choosing the penultimate area on her list, Courtney opted for Taiwan, despite spending only a few days on the island.
The solo traveller said: “This was my first introduction to East Asia, but I felt incredibly safe, especially when walking alone at night.”
Topping the list was Singapore, which is consistently ranked as one of the safest countries in the world due to its enforcement of strict laws to prevent crime.
‘Taiwanese people are a little more reserved and it can be a little more intimidating because it’s a big city, but it’s my new favorite destination.’
Topping the list was Singapore, which is consistently ranked as one of the safest countries in the world thanks to its strict crime prevention laws.
In fact, it is one of the few countries left in the world where the death penalty is still applied.
Courtney said: ‘Singapore is a great base for anyone looking to explore Asia or want to try out solo travel.’
