An American food and drink critic reviewed a much-loved traditional British drink and said he loved it.

Kalani Smith, 25, visited Brits R Us in Massachusetts to pick up a rare can of dandelion and burdock before delivering a verdict to millions of followers on her TikTok account. Kalani Ghost Hunter.

Dandelion and burdock have been commonly consumed in the UK since the Middle Ages and have a carbonated herbaceous flavor with hints of anise.

Its specific origin is unknown, but one false story is that it was first crafted by the 13th century theologian Saint Thomas Aquinas.

Today, Kalani said, “I can definitely see it being an acquired taste, but I like root beer and sarsaparilla (and) this is very similar to that.”

The review inspired many of the 25-year-old's followers to remember the often-forgotten drink.

Having avoided potential offense with that review, giving the drink an eight out of 10, Kalani went out on a limb and admitted that “I don’t rate it any better than Irn-Bru.”

And there was a lot of love for the drink in the comments, with another TikTok user adding: ‘I haven’t had one of those in years!’

‘This makes me want to get one! Although I agree (sic), it’s definitely an acquired taste.’

Others said the drink was “top-notch” and “my favorite.”

Many more remembered the combination of dandelion and burdock with fish and chips.

The slight tartness of the herbal flavor of fizzy soda is considered a good accompaniment to rich, fatty fish, rather than an overly sweet soda.

The drink is also marketed for its relative health benefits compared to alternative pop.

Dandelion is a rich source of vitamins A and C, as well as containing iron and zinc. The plant has been a traditional remedy for anemia, skin problems and blood disorders.

However, although dandelion and burdock root infusions are often part of a dandelion and burdock recipe, they are not the only flavoring.

Other common ingredients include concentrated fruit juice, caramel, and other sweeteners.
