An Australian professional cleaner has revealed the common mistakes people make when cleaning their homes.

Kacie, who runs The great clean company in Melbourne, said mistakes not only make a house “look bad” but can also cause damage.

“Cleaning isn’t complicated as long as you follow a few simple rules,” she wrote and shared a TikTok video to educate others.

Firstly, many use too much water when mopping floors, which can ruin hardwood floors and leave unwanted stains on tiles.

“Get that mop out,” he said.

Melbourne professional cleaner Kacie Stephens, director of The Big Clean Co, revealed common mistakes people make when cleaning their home.

Similar to using too much water when mopping, it is common to use too much product.

“This makes the floor feel sticky under your shoes; no one likes that,” Kacie said.

Windex is a popular product used to clean windows to achieve a seamless shine. However, Kacie said using it incorrectly can be “inefficient and ineffective.”

“Instead, lather it up and remove it with a spatula for a crisp finish,” she said.

Next, it is essential to ensure that the vacuum cleaner is clean, otherwise it will not work properly.

Kacie said a dirty vacuum cleaner can cause “weak suction” and “poor air quality” as dust can re-enter the home, which can affect people with allergies.

Lastly, not maintaining the vacuum head is another common mistake that can scratch hardwood floors.

“Clean it periodically so hair doesn’t get caught in the wheels (they get stuck) and check for damaged parts,” Kacie added.

From using too much water when mopping to using Windex incorrectly, Kacie said common mistakes can lead to damage.

Kacie has become known for sharing helpful cleaning tips with thousands of people on TikTok, and earlier this year she revealed the unlikely product she uses to transform a dirty oven into a sparkling clean.

She recommends using a pumice stone bar when tackling dirty ovens with baked goods.

The abrasive product removes unwanted grease quickly and effectively without leaving scratches and is chemical-free.

In another video, Kacie filmed herself using a pumice stone bar to demonstrate how well it works.

“This is the advice of a professional cleaner to remove buildup on the bottom of the oven,” he said.

‘Just take a stick of pumice stone. This will literally scrape it off without scratching the oven.’
