A TV cleaning guru has revealed a secret kitchen trick to prevent window condensation for good – and it costs just 69p.
ITV and This Morning star Lynsey Crombie, 45, swears by the little trick, one she says she learned from her mother, a former cleaner, while growing up in Peterborough.
Now the self-proclaimed ‘Queen of Cleaning’ has revealed the ‘old school tip’ is the perfect way to prevent condensation on windows and around the house.
Condensation is created by excess moisture in the air that forms on cold surfaces when it is colder outside than inside; It is also due to lack of ventilation.
If left untreated, it can lead to furniture damage and even mold, which can cause harmful health problems.
A TV cleaning guru has revealed a secret kitchen trick to prevent window condensation for good – and it costs just 69p.
According to Lynsey, to avoid this, all you need is this everyday kitchen item: “What you’re going to need now is washing up liquid,” she said.
Supermarket brand dishwashing liquid can cost as little as £1, and a standard 500ml Tesco bottle costs 69p.
“I chose to make this tip with an orange one so you can see it on camera,” he continued. “You literally just need a little bead… one little bead… you’re creating a barrier that’s going to keep the water from sticking (to the window).”
Drawing attention to a green fiber cloth, he then dropped a small drop of liquid detergent on it before taking it to a window.
There he rubbed the cloth around the glass in a circular motion to “cover” it, allowing the liquid to act as a protective layer to help prevent condensation.
‘So the window is now lined. Now it’s up to you: try it,” he added.
The guru also provided additional tips for keeping your windows spotless, including wiping excess water off the windows every morning with a “good, thick fiber cloth.”
‘Also open the window and let it dry. Mold may begin to appear around the window frame. If it’s wood, it can start to soak into the mold and can actually make it start to smell bad.

‘Just make it a priority every morning to simply go around your home with your microfiber cloth.
“If you’re lucky enough to have a dehumidifier in every room you suffer from, that’s a total game-changer.”
Lynsey went on to say that the method was tried and trusted, as demonstrated by her mother and two grandmothers, who she said were all cleaners by trade.
She added on Instagram: ‘My mom told me about this last week and I shared it on my stories. The next day they literally explode and many of you get amazing results.
‘To prevent condensation on your windows at this time of year, simply rub a small drop of clean liquid detergent with a dry cloth on all affected windows and this will stop the condensation, leaving you with dry windows in the morning.
“Some people asked me where the water goes, but I don’t know the answer, but what I do know is that it works, so try it.”
