Dart legend Michael van Gerwen has brutally mocked Man United on social media after bookmakers suggested he was one of Erik ten Hag’s summer transfer targets.
The three-time PDC world champion took to Twitter to poke fun at United, suggesting that he is too high a caliber to join ten Hag, claiming he is a ‘Champions League player’.
United’s inability to qualify for Europe’s elite competition has not only hampered their potential to attract new players in the transfer window, but has now brutally plagued them with the No. 3 ranked darts player.

The exchange started when bookmaker Paddy Power jokingly tweeted: ‘BREAKING: Man Utd’s list of summer transfer targets has been leaked.
“The leaks confirm that the club is interested in attracting Frenkie De Jong, Antony, Jurrien Timber, Lisandro Martinez, Jari Litmanen, Wesley Sneijder, Michael van Gerwen and Tiesto.”
The list of transfer targets starts out as a seemingly legit list before mentioning retired football stars Litmanen and Sneijder, Dutch DJ Tiesto and van Gerwen.
The 33-year-old replied on social media a day later: ‘I am a Champions League player that I will not drop’.

Manchester United ended missing Champions League football after finishing sixth in the Premier League last season, 13 points behind fourth-seeded Tottenham, after a turbulent year in the top flight.
The Red Devils did participate in the Champions League last season, but were dumped from the competition in the eighth finals after a total loss of 2-1 against Atlético Madrid.
